It seems that every decade Brett Manning sets vocal training on its creative ears in ways that forever change the world. Known globally as an innovator of technique, his best selling systematic vocal training program, Singing Success, introduced the world to a thorough method to cover and strengthen the whole voice. And now he’s introducing what he calls an exhaustive program that focuses on one niche of the voice.

“I have singers say, get me into my mix that will give me a career,” Brett said, adding that his new Mastering Mix program will make high notes epic, give substance to the head voice, and freedom to the chest voice, while providing an evenness to the entire range..

Brett exudes perpetual creative energy with ideas constantly pressing on his heart, mind, and spirit for the sake of finding ways to help singers achieve greatness beyond their wildest dreams. “Ideas for this program have come piecemeal for years, filling up on notepads, writing on napkins, tapping into my laptop, and even speaking into a voice recorder,” he said of the script that was nearly 10 years in the writing and roughly one year of recording.

The bottom line for Brett Manning is that it is disrespectful to do nothing with the blessing of creativity. His commitment to create Mastering Mix is further evidence of his respect for the creative soul.

Brett took frustrations that singers using traditional exercises go through for developing mix. He realized that the common frustration was that the results achieved through the exercises could never be fully realized and applied outside of those exercises. In other words, applying the mix to a song was one of the most common frustrations in his pedagogical experience. Brett knew he had to do something to get reproducible results from mix voice exercises.

“I found myself hacking away at the keyboard every day in the studio, begging for inspiration added to perspiration to be able to get singers to do what they need to do,” Brett said.

Mastering Mix helps a singer build bridges over those breaking areas in the voice. “Singers like Hayley Williams, Chris Keller, Billy Duvall, Kelly King have no trepidation about pesky midrange breaking areas of voice- the mix,” Brett said. “That break from chest voice to falsetto becomes a bridge from chest to head voice. The mix ends up more solid than that road traveled to get to the bridge.”

Mastering Mix is a quality program on every level

As Brett was putting the program and its exercises together he literally took time to draw in the volume of every piano note and its length and duration. The results of this meticulous attention to detail creates a musicality of scales that is not robotic but instead offers a sensation of breathing into the scales “The singer feels the music while warming up and working out the voice. No one can come close to this,” Brett said, further pointing out the uniqueness of his Mastering Mix program.

Brett credits his wife, the artist Elle, with helping bring the program to life. “She provides the missing pieces that complete me and can effectively communicate things to people who don’t know what I know. She’s a co-teacher and student,” Brett said, speaking of her ability to help clarify and build bridges of understanding. Mastering Mix has mind-boggling potential because of the multiple qualities of mix that exist.

From Vince Gill to Travis Tritt, from Stevie Wonder to Steve Tyler, from Alainis Morrissette to Hayley Williams, and from Dolly Parton to Faith Hill. The depth and breadth of mix is staggering. Varieties of mix that are explored in the 12-cd program includes light, hard, chest, head, deep, thin, nasal, non-nasal, edgy and textured.

“An eight year-old can perform these exercises,” Brett said noting that they will satisfy the most clinical university vocal instructor while satisfying the individual who simply just wants to sound better and be able to understand what they’re doing. The program includes a breakdown of each of the 12 discs as each CD is systematically defined. “Singers will be buzzing like kids headed to Disneyland. It really is a vocal paradise,” Brett said.

Yes, You Still Need Singing Success

Mastering Mix assumes the foundational knowledge from Brett’s first Singing Success program. “It can be used by those who have not used the first program, but it should be used in tandem with first program,” Brett said.

There are three components to mix; three components to connecting chest voice to head voice to bridging the mix. To accomplish this, the exercises incorporate laughing, crying, stuttering, whining, and even talking in sleepy, groggy, morning wake-up voice. But the real difference is that the program is completely systematized so that the work is done for the singer.

“Mastering Mix will definitely challenge singers. This program isn’t easy, but it makes singing easy,” Brett said. After hearing Brett Manning perform full voice during a special concert at the end of lesson-packed day of teaching, it is clear the man knows what he’s talking about but he walks it with the will to do whatever he pleases to do vocally.

Though he claims to not be a great singer, he also proudly proclaims that he makes singers great. He is thankful for the blessing of making countless singers achieve full vocal potential.

Get Real

I don't personally know Brett Manning or any of his staffers but I have subscribe to many of his product offers, SS my first, the website, vocal style, and 7 secrets of high mix. I can tell you that if you do the exercises they are like nothing I've ever bought on or off line. I'd gone so far as to spend $3000 on a trip to Canada to see a vocal guru who didn't do anything...nothing..she actually insulted me for not getting her method. Nearly, gave up at that point but I didn't I found these products and put in the work. The key work here is putting in the work, everything I've gotten from this guy has been awesome. If he's put together another program I would hard pressed to think of a reason it could be a rehash of an already successful program (SS). I plan to buy the MM this week after a few weeks of doing the work I will post my results. Here's a tip I found - I actually did not get the SS method at first. It wasn't until I listened to a member's video by Jesse the guy who used the method and later become an instructor. It was in his lesson that I finally got it. My larynx used to be all over the place, now I know exactly how to fix that, i see now it was covered in  SS but I needed it a different way.It was in the "squeeze ", felt as if I could actually control my chords... Brett gotta say I am not sure how this is going to be better but I'm gonna give it a shot any way.I put my personal email here, I will reply to you guys so you know I'm a real guy,I live in FWBFlorida, anybody in the area wanna do some singing let me know. Please don't ask to sendyou mp3 files because I won't cheat a working man... Bill

"Mastering"

Would you say that Mastering Mix encorperates elements of "Extended Vocal Techniques"?
Ive just ordered it, and my wife is currently studying EVT... I'd love to be able to colour my mix to whatever the song calls for, the range is there (SS took care of that, I'm a natural baritone who can hit a big round (and heady)G above male high C without tention), but it's all a little chesty/heady (depending on the note). As a starving artist, I've not got the cash for lessons anymore, never mind to get to Nashville, or even Glasgow for lessons. Get Singing Success, it will do for you what it did for me if you stick with it. Tom Jackson is teaching me how to communicate with an audience, and I anticipate Mastering Mix will help me find that added spark of quality to really step out with my songs and make an impact.

wear and tear

In the absence of information as to what is actually in the new product perhaps dan the man should extend his search for systems which really will eliminate wear and tear - try googling key phrases like vocal calisthenics or sinus tone - happy searching

wear and tear

hi, after a long time spending money on teachers who did little for me (including an SLS teacher who was NOT a BM associate), i got SS at the start of the year and recently bought Jesse's high mix download and Bretts 7 secrets (great for warming up a tired voice), and have really noticed a huge difference in my ability and knowledge of my voice. however, im still suffering from wear and tear after gigs (i do a lot of rock singing) although not as bad. Granted ive only being doing the programme around nine months, and i have ordered mastering mix, is there any other tips for managing this? im planning to make the trip from Ireland to Memphis for some lessons early next year, but need a little help in the meantime.
At gigs i have good monitors, i eat well, rest, don't drink or smoke, warm up before gigs, and then warm down after. on the night i feel im doing most things right, i dont feel any discomfort most of the time, but the damage still shows up the next day a little bit.
sorry bout the long post. :-). all help welcome, im an eager, knowledge hungry student!!!!!

new product

exactly my point Sukhdev - made in another thread on this site - when you sing words you have to go through the registers on all sorts of shapes and some can really trip you up. try googling 'vocal calisthenics' - I've got an idea there is something out there that deals with this

My voice has changed

Hey Brett,  Thanks So much for tour advice it is great. I just accidentally clicked on your website a few weeks ago and started practicing some of the vocal techniques that you showed on some of your weekly emails. And to be honest I never used my head voice before because I had problem going from my chest voice to my head voice but after doing your exercises I finally started to ease into my head voice without anyone even noticing it. I believe your programs are really great and am looking forward to buying the mastering mix. I havent even ordered the singing success CDs yet and look at what is happening to my voice. If your weekly emails can do this to my voice then imagine what your CDs will do to my voice. I am an international customer and I will like to know if you ship your program to the Caribbean. Thanks once again and am liooking forward to hear from you and someday, I will send a video of myself to you. Thanks again and greetings from Grenada in the Caribbean.

Mastering Mix

I have the same problem mentioned in your article, i can fly through the vocal exercises without a break, go into head voice, flip to falsetto when i feel like it, come back to chest effortlessly. However i don't have the same ease when i'm singing a song into my mix, the vocal exercises are a breeze but songs still don't sound the way i'd like them to. If mastering the mix program is about that then i'd definitely go for it, please make it available through download. I have the singing success program, wanted the mastering vibrato program real bad but it's still not available as a download. Cheers!

hi

waiting for Mastering Mix

I've been diligently training with the Singing Success Program since Dec 15th, 2008.  Prior to that, I trained with a different program I found not nearly as deep and thorough.  I've learned a lot, and most importanlyI can now find my mix "on purpose."  I totally underestimated how important warming up is...Yikes...For me, no warm up, no mix to be found!  That said, my mix is fairly good during exercises, but applying it regularly in real life application is another story.  It's not strong or consistent.  That's why I'm extrememly interested in Mastering Mix.  It almost sounds like Brett's creating it just for me. :)
All  in all, because of the singing Success Program, I 'm able to transfer my knowledge to my vocal students along with practicing what I preach when I perform from time to time.  Although I've been told I'm a very passionate and dynamic artist who has the ability to connect with audiences from my heart and soul, I've realized that my singing habits were VERY poor and it's going to take me a bit longer to break old habits than the average singer, which is where I sustain my hope for a consistent, professional level sound.  But I can say that it takes practicing 5 days per week consistly, or you're not going to experience the results you're looking for.  Just like working out or loosing weight, it takes, time, disipline, focus, and effort.  I'm getting close to my next step, which I believe is a private lesson from Brett himself so he can validate what 'Im doing or not doing correctly.  I'm getting to the point where it may just be the best $300 I could spend in an hour if i'm serious about my voice.  It weas a great exercise to just to blog these thoughts too. Tim
Bottom line...I'm genuiunely excited for this new program, Mastering Mix.  Tim

Tips fo the 9 biggest lies.

Hi Brett
I just want to say  a BIG thank you for the Tips which  I am trying to use to develop more of my breathing technique and also training myself to find out the right  range of my  voice. Thank you again they are very useful.

My Hero, Brett Manning!

I can't wait for the new program...every day I check my mail for that one special mail...the mail that says "Mastering Mix released"...yeah!
Brett Manning is a gift from god! Thank you for your (singing) wisdom and I already know that this new program is worth more than gold!
Thank you thank you!

Info vocal assessment

I have been, viewing these vocal tips for almost 2 years. I must say I have felt the benefit in the "feel of my voice". Previously I could not afford to bye the program. But now I think I can afford to bye the program and I am hesitant. Will it work for me? How will I know if I am doing the exercises correctly? I lack consistency in my voice and to tell you the truth there are does I ask myself: "should I be singing?, Do I have a good voice?". I read above that one of you got a free 15 minute consult, could I get a consult?  I am actually willing to pay for it. People say that I have a good voice but my own insecurities make it hard to believe. I always think they are trying not to hurt my feelings. It would be great to hear from an unbiased person.

Response to Mr Anonymous?

It seems Mr Anonymous in the first post is being quite disingenuous with his assessment. Why would someone use the program for 4 years if they were not getting any improvement out of it?Any reasonable person would have stopped after 6 months a got a refund if they felt the program was not helping them improve their voice. I have had the program for two years now and have seen a lot of improvement and continue to use it for my vocal workouts to this day. It was money well spent as far as am concerned. Before I bought the program I spent hundreds of dollars on a vocal teacher and had minimal results. I think some people are just looking for a magic singing pill and give up when they realize that they have to work for it. Also, what is it that they "won't respond to" could you be a little more specific? I took them up on their offer of a free 15 minute consult and it was very helpful. I think it ended up being more like 25 minutes and they even delayed my monthly payment for 3 weeks when I had to get my credit card stolen.Being skeptical of your honesty is an understatement!!!!!

Mastering the Mix

I have been working with the Singing Success resources for just over a year now.As a singer, my voice was good and fairly reliable when I started. I had done music theatre training, and had been singing professionally for some years. But Singing Success took me forward IMMEDIATELY in leaps and bounds. As a singing teacher, I find it so much easier to identify student's vocal difficulties, and to coach them in how to get the results they are looking for. While a lot of the exercises and concepts are not totally 'new' to me (being similar to much of my previous training - think Estill and Seth Riggs for example) the exercises, examples and  explanations are beautifully presented and in my opinion, just seem to hit the nail on the head. Occasionally something crops up that I'm not sure of (sometimes arpeggios are referred to as scales etc - but that's me being picky). But overall I think the work is fantastic. A note to 'Anonymous' who is 'skeptical' at the top of these comments. I'd like to ask how much and how often you practice? To achieve results you should have a good daily practice routine. I am also wondering whether you are checking yourself in the mirror for jaw tension or for tongue position. You don't actually say what your problems/issues are. Perhaps that might be useful to know. Good luck with your practice. Thanks Brett and Singing Success - I am enjoying my voice and my teaching so much more now.  Best wishes, Chloe

the mix

I have singing success, and it has helped me so much in the last 3 years.  I also have had the yearly subscription for a year and have watched a lot of the videos.  I feel I am on the verge of using the mix but haven't quite mastered it.  I do need more help.  My husband just lost his job so purchasing anything new at this time is not an option.  But I will continue to use what I have.  Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Jo Ellen

need to hear these

I've been singing and tinkering with my voice for decades and still run into those days when the mix doesn't want to work. I have Singing Success and like the better part of it so I'm very curious to see if this is the missing link for me to close the gap on a more consistent basis between registers.,

Mastering Mix

I have the Singing Success CDs and I have been working with then since about April and my voice has drastically improved to a point where my originals are coming to life and are sounding radio ready. I mean before hand I was OK and could sing and get the story across – but now it’s like night and day. I cannot tell you how anxious I am the get the new CDs - Please notify me ASAP - I want them bad! Brett's teachings have made be better than I thought I could be, and with these new CDs coming out I can't wait to see how far they can take me. Thanks Brett - you're helping me realize my inner abilities - which I didn't even know I had. God bless, Jerry
