I love Christmas music. But I can’t listen to it until after Thanksgiving weekend ends. Cause I stinking love Thanksgiving. But once it’s over, it’s a free for all. And today I set my Pandora station to “Nat King Cole Holiday” and it was LOVELY.
I would like to submit to you all my top 3 favorite Christmas songs of all time.
Holding firm to the number 1 spot….Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas”
Oh yes. This song is fan-freaking-tastic. It came into my life in the 7th grade and it’s never left my heart, or the pop radio stations in December. Pure pop delightfulness wrapped up in an old school Mariah candy coated shell. If you don’t like this song, we probably won’t ever be friends. It makes me so happy.
And coming in for a close second….
Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”
Forever I will be indebted to this song, specifically the version from the movie “White Christmas” with the whole cast. You see, one of my first musical theatre experiences was playing Rosemary Clooney’s character in a high school production of the classic film. During that stage experience, I fell in love with musical theatre. A love that drove me into my college education, studying Theatre at Florida State University (Go Noles!). And besides, Bing Crosby’s voice is like buttah. If you don’t like this song, you may not have a soul. Or you may have a heart of stone. Either way, I’m sad for you.
And número tres….
Ella Fitzgerald’s “A Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)”
Because I adore this song. And because I adore this woman. For years Ella Fitzgerald has been an all-time fav of mine. Her voice is flawless and so classy it hurts. And her voice singing one of my favorite Christmas songs makes me want to melt into a puddle of peppermint chocolate. I’ll probably listen to it later tonight as my husband and I decorate our Christmas tree. Ahhhhhh…….
And if you don’t like this song, well, you’re just mean.
So those are mine. What are yours? I promise to still respect you if your favorites are different than mine. You just have to like mine too. 🙂
